Autumn in the Backyard

All photos are copyrighted sstaas. All rights reserved.

Here in the suburbs the backyards are just covered in leaves. Fortunately, we can dump the leaves out in the woods. Yeah! However, since the woods are so close it does mean that we get even more leaves.

Who's going to be blowing the leaves away?! Ready? Just take a big inhale then blow as hard as you can.

Five Reasons You Know You're Ready for the Fall

Are you ready for the Fall? I am. It's my favourite season. I love the colours and I love the cooler temperatures, and I also love using the oven again.

Want to know if you're also ready for the Autumn? If you answer 'yes' to at least one of the following, then you're absolutely ready!

1. You just picked up your first leaf of the season and got teary-eyed.

2. You put away your summer clothes and got out some nice cosy ones.

3. You're already eyeing the storage bins in the garage that contain Christmas lights.

4. You feel that this will definitely be the year you're finally going to dress up at Halloween.

5. You've already eaten a bag of Halloween candy and there are still weeks to go before Trick or Treat Day!

Daffodils in the Spring

All photos and written works are copyrighted sstaas. All rights reserved.

Guess what?! The snow has all melted and the temperatures are around fifty degrees. So far so good!

Now what is awaiting lots of attention is the backyard. Need to clean it up, get rid of the leaves yet again, and fertilize it.

Guess another what?! Several years ago there were daffodils in the back yard, but, since they eventually no longer flowered I yanked them out of the ground and dumped them in the woods out back.

Each spring these poor, neglected, worn-out daffodils bloom! I didn't even plant them. I simply tossed them into the woods. Now, some did disintegrate along with the leaves we dump. But look, here are the ones that bloom every year.

Spring is here!!

Who said we love the Four Seasons?

All photos and written works copyrighted sstaas. All rights reserved.

Did I hear the word 'snow'? Snow way. We've jumped from falling leaves to luscious snow.

Now, instead of raking leaves we're into shovelling snow, slipping, skating on ice, trying not to go down with a thump, hoping the car will get out of the driveway.

And we tell ourselves that we love the four seasons. Ouch! Roll on the Spring!!

Here's some inspiring music to help us through the winter. Vivaldi's Four Seasons

Five Good Reasons for not Raking Leaves

Hate raking or blowing away the leaves?! Me too. I just worked for hours yesterday removing the leaves in the back yard and in the front lawn. Today, you'd never know. The wind has blown more leaves from the trees. Both the front and back yards look like leaf carpets!

I'm ready for good reasons NOT to remove leaves. I don't even care if they're GOOD reasons or not!!

1. The wind will remove them - into your neighbour's yard!

2. The deer like the leaves, don't they?

3. You always wanted lovely brown, golden and orange carpets on your grass.

4. Might as well wait until ALL the leaves are down, right?

5. They're not MY leaves. They blew in from someone else's trees

Can you think of any other reasons that I don't have to rake the leaves?

Signs of the Suburbs

All photos and written works copyrighted sstaas. All rights reserved.

Here in the suburbs there are so many cars that look just like mine. They may be a different make of car, but they still look like mine. At least that's what it seems when I'm wandering around in a parking lot looking for my car. Where did I park it?
Hmm.

I came up with a solution. I got myself an Ecosse sticker sign and a Scottish flag sticker sign. How many people have these two stickers on their car?! Do you know what 'Ecosse' means in English! Can you guess? It's the name of a country.

Much as I enjoy driving, I also love to walk. I walk around the neighbourhood most days for about two miles. There's a teacher strike just now, and the parents are not at all happy.

You can tell by this sign how annoyed people are.

There's a sign that I pass basically every day when I'm out walking.

Every evening around seven p.m. a weather balloon appears high in the sky. I often wonder where it ends up!

There are other signs in the suburbs. One was waiting on me when I got back home. A sign that Autumn is still here. Still loads of leaves to remove!

At least we back on to the woods, so we can dump the leaves out there.

Things to ponder: What do you think of teachers going out on strike? Do you have lots of leaves still? How do you deal with removing them? What stickers do you have on your car?

Falling Leaves of Autumn

All photos and written works copyrighted SStaas.

The leaves just keep falling! We're surrounded by trees, and the wind has been blowing the leaves everywhere. Time to rake them up and dump them! So glad our yard backs on to the woods.

Sometimes it'd be nice to keep the leaves. Protect them from disintegrating, drying up like an old prune.

But, with so many leaves, how can we even consider NOT getting rid of them?!

I'm allergic to the leaves. I plaster Vicks on my nostrils and use a saline nasal spray to help. I take an antihistamine as well. If I'm really congested, then I also take a decongestant. But, the leaves are so beautiful, and it's nice to walk through them, allergies or not.

Now, in the local village, close to where I live I don't have to worry about clearing the leaves away!

I can just enjoy them, admire them. In between sneezing and blowing my nose that is!

Do you enjoy the autumn?

Autumn Leaves

All Photos copyrighted SStaas. All rights reserved

See any leaves in the back garden? Nope. Me neither. Yeah! But, that's all going to change soon.

Every year there are tons of leaves just hanging about waiting to get picked up and dumped.

Our back garden meanders down into the woods. So, anytime the wind blows we get the leaves from the woods. And, of course, the leaves from our own trees. Now, where it can get tricky here in the suburbs, is if your neighours' leaves happen to blow into your yard. All hell can break loose! I sometimes wonder if people sneak out at night and blow their neighbours' leaves back into their own property. Tee hee. Wouldn't surprise me.
